Terms of Service

Effective April 8, 2026

1. Account Eligibility

College Diary (operating the ACOPA platform) is open to users aged 13 and older, subject to the following age-based account structure:

  • Ages 13–17: An Achiever account is required. The student is the sole account holder and platform user. A parent or guardian billing email may be provided for payment receipt purposes only — it does not create a platform account or grant any platform access. Students may optionally invite a parent or guardian as a read-only viewer from their account settings.
  • Age 18 and older: Users may create and manage a solo account independently.

By creating an account, you represent that you are 13 or older and meet the eligibility requirements for your account type.

2. Achievement Data Ownership

All achievement records entered into ACOPA belong permanently to the student. ACOPA does not claim ownership over any achievement data you create.

You retain the right to view, export, and delete your achievement records at any time. On account closure, your complete achievement record will be packaged and made available for download before any deletion occurs.

ACOPA's role is that of an infrastructure provider — a platform through which data flows — not a custodian or owner of that data.

3. Verifier Testimony Ownership

Verification testimonies submitted by third-party verifiers are owned by the verifiers themselves — not by ACOPA, and not by the student. Each verifier retains full ownership of what they wrote and the reputation they staked on it.

Verifiers submit testimonies voluntarily and may contact ACOPA to request correction or removal of their submitted content. Students may not alter or delete a verifier's testimony on their behalf.

4. ACOPA's Role

ACOPA is an infrastructure provider, not a data custodian. We provide the platform, verification workflow, and tools that allow students to build and share verified achievement records. We do not own, analyze for commercial purposes, or sell the data stored in your chronicle.

We hold only the minimum data necessary to operate the platform. Authentication credentials (such as email address and optional phone number) are held by our authentication provider, Supabase — not by ACOPA itself.

5. Acceptable Use

By using ACOPA, you agree to the following:

  • You will not submit deliberately false or fabricated achievement entries.
  • You will not recruit fake, paid, or otherwise fraudulent verifiers to confirm achievements that were not genuinely witnessed.
  • You will not use the platform to misrepresent yourself to educational institutions, employers, or any other party.
  • You will not attempt to circumvent the verification system or manipulate the integrity of any verified record.

Violations of these terms may result in account suspension or permanent closure at ACOPA's sole discretion.

6. Verification Integrity

The credibility of College Diary depends entirely on the independence and authenticity of its verification layer. The following are strict violations of ACOPA's Verification Integrity Policy:

  1. Self-verification — Submitting a verification request to yourself or any account you control.
  2. Paid or incentivized verification — Offering or receiving payment, gifts, grades, favors, or any form of compensation in exchange for a verification.
  3. Impersonation — Registering or acting as a verifier under a false identity, or submitting a verification request to someone who did not actually witness the achievement.

Consequences:

  • First offense: Formal written warning issued to the account holder. The offending verification will be permanently flagged and removed from the record.
  • Repeated offense: Permanent expulsion from the ACOPA platform without refund of any membership fees paid.

ACOPA reserves the right to determine what constitutes a violation at its sole discretion, and to act accordingly to protect the integrity of the platform for all users.

7. Subscription and Billing

Monthly plans: ACOPA is offered on a monthly subscription basis. Your subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled.

One-time fees: Certain features (such as AI application drafting) are available as separate, itemized one-time fees, not bundled into any monthly plan.

30-day minimum: Plan changes are available after you have been on your current plan for at least 30 days. This policy exists to prevent plan-hopping abuse and ensure billing integrity.

Upgrades: Upgrading to a higher-tier plan takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain access to your current plan until then, and your new rate begins at the next renewal date.

Downgrades: Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain full access to your current plan until then. Downgrades are permitted one tier at a time: Premium subscribers may downgrade to Gold, and Gold subscribers may downgrade to Basic. A direct downgrade from Premium to Basic is not permitted in a single step; the subscriber must first downgrade to Gold, then to Basic in the following billing period.

Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to your account until that date.

Data export on closure: If you close your account, a complete export of your achievement record will be generated automatically before deletion. Account data is permanently deleted 10 days after account closure.

8. Account Suspension

ACOPA reserves the right to suspend or permanently close any account found to be in violation of these Terms of Service, including but not limited to violations of the Acceptable Use policy in Section 5.

In cases of suspected fraud or harm to the platform's verification integrity, ACOPA may suspend an account immediately and without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify the account holder and provide an opportunity to respond.

9. Limitation of Liability

ACOPA is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ACOPA and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform.

ACOPA does not verify the accuracy of achievement entries submitted by students. Verifier testimonies reflect the personal recollection of individual verifiers. ACOPA makes no representations as to the completeness or accuracy of any record in the platform.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the platform shall not exceed the total fees paid by you to ACOPA in the three months preceding the claim.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice within the platform. Continued use of ACOPA after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms may be directed to the ACOPA team through the support section of your account settings.
